April 22, 2024 marked 50 years since the Hi-Fi Shop murders in Ogden, Utah. The anniversary brought new local reporting and reflection from people who lived through the case.
A case Ogden has not forgotten
The crime stayed in local memory for decades. On the 50th anniversary, the Standard-Examiner ran reporting that included a former Ogden police officer recalling the investigation. Weber State University included the case in its “50 Stories for 50 Years” digital exhibit in 2024.
Why it still matters to investigators
The case is taught to FBI trainees at Quantico and appears in the FBI’s Crime Classification Manual as a sample case. Detective Deloy White’s dumpster tactic, which flushed out Pierre and Andrews by watching their reactions, is still cited as proactive investigative work.
The people at the center
By the 50th anniversary, both survivors had died: Orren Walker in 2000 and Cortney Naisbitt in 2002. All three convicted men were also gone. What remains is the record and the families’ long experience of loss. Read about the victims and survivors.
